What Are My Web Development Options?

What's the best way to design a website?

There are several ways that we can help you develop a custom website. Whether you’re starting from scratch or redesigning an existing site; we want to help you choose the best option for you. With all the decision you have to make during the process, we can help make where to start an easier one.

One way we can make it simple is by narrowing it into four options. Your options include modifying your existing web site, building from a template, redesigning your current site, or building a custom site from the ground up.

I listed them in order from the most cost effective to the most value. We will start with the most cost effective option, which is modifying your existing site.

Modifying Your Existing Site

So maybe you still like your site, but it’s not functioning the way that you thought it would, your organization has grown, or it’s not getting the results that you want. The design is good, but a few things need to be added or changed. We always recommend user interface testing at this point, but if it’s not in the budget we can still work with you to find a solution.

Depending on the issues with the existing site, we have often found that we are only billing for a few hours. This is especially true when the code is more familiar. If your site is developed on WordPress, Drupal, Joomla or another well-known framework, we can typically make changes and add pages pretty quickly. This is how modifying a site tends to be the most cost effective. In the event that the code is completely custom; it may take a few more hours to decipher what the original programmer was doing. Even with the unknown, with our hourly rate of $95/hr., a project can stay well under $1K.

Building from A Template

This is a great way to save on cost. Often times; pre-coded templates can save you nearly 50% of project cost. Of course this also depends on what the site needs to do in the end. But it certainly cuts down on design time and if we work together to select the right template it can cut down on programming hours as well.

Since templates have been available for some time now, not only do they look pretty good, but they are often responsive as well. Meaning that, they are already optimized to be viewed on mobile devices; such as, tablets and smartphones. The web has also grown so much that it’s not too often that you will come across another company using the same template.

With so much of the ground work already in place Eternal Works can typically develop a template based site between $1.5K and $5k. We prefer to use templates as a framework, or starting point, for your website. We can work together to select a template and make it look like it was a custom design just for your organization.

Redesigning Your Existing Site

This is where web design can get a bit more complex. A simple redesign may just be changing out graphics to give the site a fresh look, while all the content, pages, and functionality remain the same. On the other side of the coin, a redesign can nearly be like developing a new site; especially today with all of the various frameworks, CMS platform and responsive design.

At E-W, we would like to sit down with you to discuss your goals and work together to create a strategy that best fits your organization. With the strategy in place we can determine if we just need to make a few minor tweaks to the site or if we need to start from scratch and map out a completely new user experience (UX).

At Eternal Works, our redesigns start at $3K. Drop us a line and we can set up a free discovery meeting and start on some preliminary research.

Building a Custom Site

The goal of a developing a custom site is to make sure that the entire site is unique to your brand and that no other company out there will look like yours. Building a custom site does not mean that we can’t build it on an existing CMS like WordPress or framework like Zend. It means that the design, and CSS will be custom. In short Eternal Works develops custom templates that work seamlessly with whatever platform we’ve agreed to use for your project.

Your custom site will be a clear representation of your organization’s brand. In order to do this we start with a discovery, some research and a written strategy. With everything to plan and consider around your brand and web presence, custom sites can take anywhere from 60 hours to several hundred hours.

Our rates start at $4K for a completely custom build with full strategies.
